Owen has been a non-exec member of the board of directors of Menter a Busnes since 2003 and was the chairman for 3 years. He retired from the board in May 2022 but retains strong links with the company.

International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association
This is the industry body that represents on a global basis all companies involved in the commercialisation of biological products for pest control. Owen was president of IBMA for 2 years, vice president for 3 years and has also been a member of various IBMA committees since its formation in 1995.
UK Research Councils
NERC
Since 2007, Owen has been a member of the NERC Proof of Concept Expert Panel. This is a proof of concept fund to support the commercialisation of research ideas arising from NERC, BBSRC, EPSRC or STFC funded research. The Panel assesses proposals and makes decisions on awards.
BBSRC
In 2014-2019, Owen has been a member of the peer review committeefor assessing grant proposals submitted to the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
UKRI – Future Leader Fellowships
This cross-UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) scheme supports early career researchers and innovators with outstanding potential in universities, UK registered businesses, and other research and user environments including research councils’ institutes and laboratories. Since 2019 Owen has been on the moderating panel to select suitable candidates.

IVCC (Innovative Vector Control Consortium)
Since 2015 Owen has been a member of two External Scientific Advisory Committees (ESACs) of the IVCC which aims to create new solutions to prevent disease transmission by insect vectors. IVCC’s mission is to save lives, protect health and increase prosperity in areas where disease transmitted by insects is endemic.
